Experience Point Awards
Your Experience Point Total and Spendable will be listed in a Private note between you and the GM on your character page when awarded.
The following is a guide to the experience point awards of a given game session.
- Primary Objective: 300 – 400
- Secondary Objective: 150 – 250
- Teriary Objective: 50 – 150
- Chapter Objective: 100 – 200
- Adventure Log Entry: 50 – 350
- Roleplaying Reward: 50 – 500
The focus and reason for the Mission, these are at the core of the Mission and vital to it’s success. Primary Objectives are very specific, and worded precisely, and may be failed or have your characters reprimanded if not achieved exactly as ordered. There is no less than one Primary Objective per mission. All primary objectives must be complete in order for the Deathwatch Kill-team to return home, and in some cases extraction will not occur till the Primary Objective/s are done. For each of these completed you will receive an Experience point award based on how hard it was to achieve.
These are supplemental to the success of the Primary Objectives and enhance the success of the Mission. Kill-teams will still be extracted or can return to base if they fail or do not achieve a Secondary Objective, however as they relate to the degree of success of the mission, your characters may loose face in the eyes of the Deathwatch if not completed. They may not be as specific as Primary Objectives, and can be abstract, so completion is subject to interpretation of your Watch Commander and the Leaders of the Deathwatch (ie, the GM).
These are bonus objectives not directly tied to the success of the mission but no less important. Kill-teams will still be extracted or can return to base if they fail or do not achieve, and will not be shamed in the eyes of the Deathwatch if a Tertiary Objective is not completed, but each may still come with renown and may later help a Battle Brother requisition rare or special things at later times. Like Secondary Objectives, they may not be specific and can be abstract, so completion is subject to interpretation of the Watch Commander and Leaders of the Deathwatch (ie, the GM).
Despite the Secret status of your Deathwatch assignment, that you must never share with your Home Chapter, due to the nature of your summons to the Deathwatch, your Chapter has figured out where the Deathwatch is basing your kill-team, and has found ways to communicate with you secretly. Through this they are providing you with objectives to achieve for your Home Chapter whilst in the Jericoh Reach – but must at all times keep secret and hidden from the other Deathwatch battle brothers – sometime including those of your own Chapter! For each of these completed without the other Marines knowing about it, there will be an additional Experience Point award.
Adventure Log Entry
If you make a comment on each mission’s Adventure Log or send a report as a private message to the GM from the perspective of your character in regard to what happened on the mission, there will be an additional Experience Point award based on the quality, usefulness, acuracy and development of your character. This award is entirely at GM discretion.
The GM may offer experience points for good portrayal of your character – such as; playing up the rivalry between chapters, talking in-character, deliberate action to avoid meta-gaming, etc. This list is non-specific for the moment, however as they are awarded throughout the course of the campaign, the reasons and the amounts will be noted below.
